The Role
We have an exciting opportunity to join the Glasgow 2026 team as Social Media Manager — a pivotal role that will place you at the heart of one of the most ambitious and dynamic multi-sport events in the world. You’ll be responsible for shaping the voice, tone, and digital presence of Glasgow 2026, leading the strategy, execution, and optimisation of all social media activity — from pre-Games planning to real-time content during the live event.
As the Social Media Manager, you will develop and deliver a bold, audience-first social strategy that drives engagement, builds excitement, and brings the story of Glasgow 2026 to life across platforms and audiences. From the baton relay to the final podium moment, you’ll make sure the Games are as inspiring online as they are in person.
You will lead the development, planning, and delivery of social media content and campaigns across all official Glasgow 2026 channels. This includes managing day-to-day posting, commissioning creators, curating content, driving engagement, monitoring performance, and leading real-time storytelling during the Games.
This is your opportunity to be at the heart of a world-class event —working with passionate professionals and visionary leaders who are committed to showcasing Scotland on the international stage as well as delivering excellence for athletes and local communities.
If you’re strategic, creative, and thrive in fast-paced live environments, this is your moment.
Job Summary:
You’ll be a key member of the Content & Design team, reporting to the Head of Content, and will collaborate across departments and with external agencies to deliver an integrated and inclusive digital presence.
Key Skills and Experience:
Working proactively across the full event lifecycle, you’ll be responsible for planning and scheduling content that resonates with diverse audiences, capturing the excitement of key milestones, and responding to trending moments in real time.
To thrive in this role, you’ll bring proven experience in managing high-profile, multi-platform social media campaigns, ideally within sport, live events, or major cultural projects. Your writing will be a standout strength — adaptable across platforms and audiences, with a sharp editorial instinct for what truly resonates in the fast-paced digital landscape.
You’ll be confident using a range of social media and content tools, including Sprout Social, Hootsuite, Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, and real-time platforms like Grabyo.
Your familiarity with scheduling tools such as Hootsuite and Meta Business will support efficient and consistent multi-platform posting. Alongside this, you’ll demonstrate a deep understanding of social trends, platform algorithms, and digital best practices — always ready to adjust content strategies in line with performance insights.
Data will be second nature to you. You’ll be comfortable interpreting analytics via tools like Google Analytics, Meta Insights, and Analytics to refine your approach and guide creative decisions. Your strong stakeholder management skills will support effective collaboration across internal teams and external partners, while your leadership experience will be essential for guiding teams and freelancers — particularly during high-pressure periods like Games time. Flexibility is also key, with availability to work evenings and weekends during the live event period.
Experience working on Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games, World Cups, or similar multi-sport events would be a distinct advantage. Familiarity with accessibility and inclusivity standards in digital communications is also highly desirable, as is any experience functioning as a studio traffic manager within a fast-paced content environment.
