Throughout the Games, Glasgow's iconic Finnieston Crane will bloom as The Glasgow Rose takes pride of place above the River Clyde, as part of Glasgow 2026 Festival. Designed by Glasgow-based artist Emer Tumilty in collaboration with NEWSUBSTANCE, the large-scale artwork transforms one of the city's most recognisable landmarks into a striking celebration of Glasgow's creativity, heritage and future. Inspired by the iconic rose motifs of Charles Rennie Mackintosh and Margaret Macdonald Mackintosh, The Glasgow Rose reimagines one of Glasgow's best-known symbols through a bold contemporary lens. Bringing together the rose and the crane – two enduring emblems of the city – the artwork celebrates Glasgow's rich artistic legacy while reflecting the energy, diversity and imagination that continue to shape it today. Through vibrant colour, pattern and form, Tumilty has created a joyful new landmark that connects history, culture, place and people. Suspended above the Clyde, the artwork offers a fresh perspective on familiar symbols, celebrating both the city's industrial heritage and its thriving creative spirit.
