About the Commonwealth Sport Foundation
The Commonwealth Sport Foundation is the charitable arm of Commonwealth Sport. It supports sport and development programmes across the Commonwealth, using sport as a tool to address social, economic and structural barriers.
The Foundation works year-round with Commonwealth Games Associations, partners and communities to design and deliver initiatives that promote inclusion, strengthen local capacity and create access to education, leadership and participation in sport.
Their work prioritises young people, women and girls, and individuals facing barriers to opportunity.
Approach
The Foundation’s programmes are shaped by the needs and experiences of the communities they serve, with a focus on practical delivery and long-term impact.
“The grant support I received from the Commonwealth Sport Foundation allowed me to reach more young people and make education on female health more accessible.”
Strategic Priorities
The Foundation’s activity is guided by 4 core pillars:
-
Youth
-
Women and Girls’ Leadership
-
Inclusion
-
Community
These pillars inform programme design, funding decisions and partnership development across the Commonwealth.
Programmes and Reach
The Foundation delivers its work through established initiatives including GAPS, Women Leaders, eqUIP and Game Changers, alongside cross-cutting activity linked to sustainability and the King’s Baton Relay.
Established in 2020, inspired by the legacy of Glasgow 2014, the Foundation has raised more than £5 million to support programmes across all 74 Commonwealth nations and territories. Its model combines international coordination with locally led delivery. In 2026, the Foundation’s funding will be distributed equally across Scottish and international initiatives. Read more here.
