The Role
We have an exciting opportunity to join the Glasgow 2026 Sport team as Technical Operations Manager – Bowls and Para Bowls, supporting the delivery of one of the Commonwealth Games’ most established and widely recognised sports.
Working closely with the Sport Competition Manager, you will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and supporting the delivery of all technical aspects of Bowls and Para Bowls competition at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games. You will ensure full compliance with World Bowls rules and regulations, helping to create a competition environment that enables athletes and technical officials to perform at their very best.
This is a highly collaborative role that works across sport, venue, and Games-wide delivery functions. You will act as a key link between the Sport team, internal Functional Areas, and external partners, translating sport-specific technical requirements into practical, operational solutions across competition, warm-up, and training environments. As the Games approach, the role will become increasingly operational and hands-on, requiring flexibility, resilience, and a proactive, solutions-focused approach.
Job Summary:
As Technical Operations Manager – Bowls and Para Bowls, you will support the end-to-end planning, integration, and delivery of all technical competition elements for your assigned sport disciplines at Glasgow 2026. Working in partnership with the Sport Competition Manager, you will help ensure that Bowls and Para Bowls competitions are organised and delivered in line with World Bowls rules, standards, and technical requirements.
You will collaborate closely with Games-wide Functional Areas to embed sport-specific technical requirements into venue planning, Field of Play and warm-up delivery, equipment provision, sport presentation, athlete services, workforce planning, and Games-time operations. Acting as a key technical point of contact, you will support communication with World Bowls, Bowls Scotland, and appointed Technical Delegates to ensure alignment, issue resolution, and competition readiness.
As the Games approach, you will support testing and readiness programmes, milestone tracking, and operational planning, contributing to Games-time delivery and post-Games Transfer of Knowledge documentation. The role will evolve throughout the lifecycle of the Organising Company, requiring a flexible approach to working hours, including evenings and weekends in the lead-up to and during Games Time.
Key Skills and Experience:
We’re looking for someone with experience working within an able-bodied and/or para sport competition environment, ideally within Bowls and/or Para Bowls, who brings a detailed understanding of International Federation rules, regulations, and competition standards.
You will have experience working with National and/or International Sport Federations and be comfortable managing relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including technical delegates, officials, and delivery partners. Experience supporting Field of Play and warm-up delivery, venue planning, and sport-specific operational planning within a multi-sport or major event environment will be important for success in this role.
Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to deliver high-quality outcomes under pressure are essential. You will be an effective communicator, comfortable working in a multicultural environment, and confident supporting the recruitment, training, and management of sport-specific staff and volunteers. Experience of the Commonwealth Games or other major multi-sport events would be highly beneficial.
