The Role

We have an exciting opportunity to join the Glasgow 2026 Sport team as Technical Operations Manager – Athletics and Para Athletics, playing a pivotal role in the delivery of one of the most high-profile and technically complex sports on the Games programme.

Working closely with the Sport Competition Manager, you’ll be responsible for planning and coordinating all technical aspects of Athletics and Para Athletics competition delivery, ensuring full compliance with World Athletics and World Para Athletics rules and standards. From early planning through to Games-time operations, you’ll help shape an environment where athletes and officials can perform at their very best.

This is a highly collaborative role that sits at the intersection of sport, operations, and venue delivery. You’ll act as a key link between the Sport team and Games-wide Functional Areas, translating sport-specific technical requirements into practical, operational solutions across competition, training, and warm-up environments.

You’ll support the design and delivery of the Field of Play, oversee technical readiness across venues, and contribute to workforce planning, training, and deployment for sport-specific staff and volunteers. Working alongside World Athletics, World Para Athletics, UK Athletics, and Scottish Athletics, you’ll help ensure all stakeholders are aligned, informed, and prepared for a seamless competition experience.

As the Games approach, your role will become increasingly operational and dynamic, requiring flexibility, resilience, and a solutions-focused mindset. This is a rare opportunity to be at the heart of a major international multi-sport event, contributing directly to the integrity, fairness, and success of Athletics and Para Athletics at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.

Job Summary:

As Technical Operations Manager – Athletics and Para Athletics, you will support the planning, integration, and delivery of all technical competition elements for your assigned sport disciplines at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games. Working closely with the Sport Competition Manager, you will help ensure that Athletics and Para Athletics competitions are delivered in line with World Athletics and World Para Athletics rules, with athlete safety, fairness, and performance at the heart of delivery.

You will work collaboratively across the Sport team and with Games-wide Functional Areas to embed sport-specific technical requirements into venue planning, equipment provision, athlete services, workforce delivery, and Games-time operations. Acting as a key technical point of contact, you’ll help translate international federation standards into practical, operational solutions that support seamless competition delivery.

As the Games approach, the role will become increasingly operational and hands-on, supporting testing and readiness programmes, workforce preparation, and Games-time delivery. You will contribute to milestone planning, reporting, and risk management, while maintaining strong working relationships with World Athletics, World Para Athletics, UK Athletics, and Scottish Athletics to ensure competition readiness and a world-class experience at Glasgow 2026.

Key Skills and Experience:

We’re looking for someone with experience working within a sport competition or event delivery environment, ideally within Athletics and/or Para Athletics, who brings a strong understanding of International Federation rules, regulations, and technical standards. You’ll be confident supporting the planning and delivery of competition operations and translating technical requirements into practical, operational solutions.

You’ll have experience working with National and/or International Sport Federations and be comfortable managing relationships across a wide range of stakeholders, including technical delegates, officials, and delivery partners. Experience contributing to venue planning, Field of Play delivery, training and warm-up environments, and sport-specific operational planning will be key to success in this role.

Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to deliver high-quality outcomes under pressure are essential. You’ll be an effective communicator, comfortable working in a multicultural environment, and confident collaborating across teams. Experience supporting the recruitment, training, and management of staff and volunteers, as well as familiarity with multi-sport Games environments, Para sport, or major international events, would be highly beneficial.
