Did you know that if just 1,000 spectators chose a chicken burger instead of a beef burger at Glasgow 2026, the emissions saved would be equivalent to powering the Hydro venue for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies days!
The My Emissions Food Carbon Label
You'll see simple A–E carbon labels displayed next to many food and drink items across Glasgow 2026. These labels are designed to help you understand the climate impact of your food and make more informed choices.
What is a Food Carbon Label?
Every food item has a carbon footprint - the total greenhouse gas emissions generated throughout its journey, from growing ingredients and production to getting it to your plate.
The My Emissions Food Carbon Label translates that information into a simple A–E rating that's easy to understand at a glance. Think of it like a nutrition label, but instead of calories, it shows the climate impact of your meal.
A = Lower carbon footprint
B–D = Moderate carbon footprint
E = Higher carbon footprint
How are the ratings calculated?
The ratings are calculated by My Emissions using recognised environmental data and life cycle assessment (LCA) methodology. Each rating reflects the estimated greenhouse gas emissions associated with producing and serving that food or drink item.
Why are carbon labels used?
Carbon labels make it easier to compare the climate impact of different menu options without needing to understand the underlying science. Alongside our focus on Scottish produce and plant-based choices, they're one of the ways Glasgow 2026 is helping spectators make informed decisions if they choose to do so.
