The Finnie Diaries | Magic Moments in March
Hello friends, can you believe it’s that time again!
I want to start off by saying a giant unicorn-sized thank you to all of my Finnie friends who have been keeping up with my monthly diary – it really means the world to this sparkly unicorn!
March has been another magical adventure, and I have been trotting all over the place. Spring is starting to bloom, the days are getting a little brighter, and I have even noticed the evenings staying lighter for longer. It feels like there is a real buzz in the air, and I have had such a fun-filled month meeting new friends and spreading the Glasgow 2026 love!
At the very beginning of March, I had one of the most exciting days ever as I travelled all the way to London to attend the Commonwealth Day Service at Westminster Abbey. It was such an honour to be invited! I met children from schools across the UK and people who had travelled from all over the Commonwealth. And guess what… I even got a royal nod from Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales. It truly was a once-in-a-lifetime day, and I felt like the luckiest unicorn in the land!
Back home in Glasgow, I had something very special to show off… my brand new Finnie Mobile. I parked up on Buchanan Street and met lots of lovely people who stopped by to say hello. Now, I must admit that the weather was typically Scottish that day, but did that stop me? Of course not! A little drizzle cannot dampen this unicorn’s sparkle. I loved meeting lots of new friends and finding out their Big Ticket Quiz results! I had a go too, of course – apparently, Bowls and Para Bowls is where I should be this summer!
I’ve been doing my sums and have worked out that I have met students from more than 200 schools throughout March at various inter-school events – now those numbers really are unicorn magic. One highlight was my trip to Perth, where I cheered on young athletes from 70 different schools at the cross-country championships. They were soooooo speedy and super inspiring!
This month, I also tested my strength and speed at Glasgow Science Centre with some brilliant Team Scotland athletes at the BodyWorks exhibition. I’m not sure I’ll be getting the call-up anytime soon, but these unicorn muscles definitely had a good bash at the fun challenges – it’s the taking part that matters, right??
To top it all off, I had a roaring time at Hampden Park, meeting Roary the Lion for the very first time and getting shown around the stadium. I was invited back at the weekend to cheer on Scotland as they took on Japan. I waved to fans, posed for photos and soaked up all the excitement. It was so fun to be part of the half-time mascot race across the pitch. The crowd was cheering, and I galloped as fast as I could. Unfortunately, Rory was just too quick – I think we’ll still be friends though!
It has been another fabulous month full of fun, friendship and adventure. With spring in full swing and brighter days ahead, I cannot wait to see what’s in store in April.
It’s now less than four months to go until the Games, and rest assured, there is plenty more unicorn magic to come! 🦄✨
