The Finnie Diaries | April’s Awesome Adventures
Hello again, friends! It feels like just yesterday I was sitting writing my March diary entry… where on earth has the time gone?
Since I last trotted by, I have been out and about more than ever, meeting lots of new friends and continuing the very exciting (and slightly speedy) countdown to the Games this summer!
This month, we hit a HUGE milestone. 100 days to go until the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games! To celebrate, I made a super special visit to the Prince and Princess of Wales Trust Hospice. You might remember they were one of the very first organisations to go All In back in January, on that magical launch day in Paisley… complete with a rainbow appearance just for me!
Back to the hospice! I spent not one but two incredible afternoons there this month, with the first perfectly timed for our 100 days to go celebrations. Because the hospice supports so many amazing young adults, I wanted to make sure I could see as many friendly faces as possible across their two Glasgow 2026-themed activity days.
I absolutely loved getting involved in all their brilliant activities and seeing their artwork of me. Honestly, I did not think it was possible to look any more fabulous, but they proved me wrong! My absolute highlight, though, was the song they performed especially for me. It was so much fun, and it made this unicorn blush brighter than ever - I might have even had a tiny happy tear in my eye.
Everyone at the hospice is now officially part of the Finnie Best Friend Club. Numbers are certainly growing very quickly!
Now, let us rewind to the start of the month. I trotted over to the Armadillo, where Weightlifting and Para Powerlifting will take place this summer. While I was not meeting athletes on this occasion, I did get to meet some equally special guests, as none other than the Wiggles arrived in Glasgow on their tour!
Before the show, I showed off some of my signature poses, then things got even more exciting when the Tree of Wisdom challenged me to a dance-off. I picked up some brilliant new moves, and I cannot wait to bring a little extra sparkle to the dance floor at the Games.
The Armadillo really was the place to be this month because I was back again just a few weeks later. This time, welcoming all of our incredible Legends at their official Volunteer Orientation event. It was so lovely to meet the wonderful people who will be the beating heart of the Games this summer. I even got to try on the brand new volunteer uniform. Pink and purple? Simply perfect. Very on brand, if I do say so myself!
Those delightful visits have left me soooooo excited to see Weightlifting and Para Powerlifting take over the Armadillo in summer - it's going to be simply unforgettable!
Now, just one more magical moment to share… being part of history! This month, Scotland and England’s incredible women’s rugby teams set a new record for the highest attendance at a women’s sporting event in Scotland ever – and I got to be there at Murrayfield to see it!
I caught up with mascot friends Lochie, Flinty and Clyde, and met so many passionate supporters. It was truly heartwarming to see so many fans get behind an incredible day for women’s sport. All 30,498 of them are now my friends, obviously! I hope to see them ALL supporting women's sport at the Games this summer – especially as netball takes centre stage at the Hydro.
In summary, April has been even busier, brighter and more magical than ever before. Between all my special events, I am still on my mission to visit every primary school in Glasgow, and I am making brilliant progress. Hoof by hoof, I am getting there!
As always, I will keep sprinkling my unicorn magic wherever I go as the countdown to 23 July continues.
Now 84 days and counting… ✏️✨🦄
