Adam Ramsay-Peaty will go for gold in Glasgow – again
Three-time Olympic champion Adam Ramsay-Peaty will return to the scene of his first major international successes – 12 years after claiming a maiden Commonwealth Games crown – after being named in the Glasgow 2026 Team England line-up.
The swimmer won 100m Breaststroke gold, took silver medals in the 50m Breaststroke, as well as the Men’s 4x100m medley relay events at Glasgow 2014 before going on to claim his first World Championship and Olympic titles over the following two years.
50m and 100m Breaststroke world record holder has claimed Commonwealth titles at each of the three Games he has competed in and is targeting more of the same this summer after an impressive showing at the recent Aquatics GB Championships.
“I’m really looking forward to going back to Glasgow, it’s literally where all of this journey started,” said Ramsay-Peaty.
“Life is very different now, I have a child who will be nearly six-years-old when it comes around, but that doesn’t mean I can’t win and I can’t chase world records.”
The 31-year-old is part of a 28-strong swimming squad selected for Team England, with 14 para swimmers also chosen to represent the nation at Glasgow 2026.
Among the other leading names who will line up in the red and white of England are Olympic champions James Guy, Tom Dean and Freya Anderson.
Freya Colbert, who broke her own British 200m Freestyle record at the European Championships and Commonwealth Games trials last month, is a strong one-to-watch on the women’s side.
Rising sprint star Eva Okaro, World medallist Lauren Cox as well as Birmingham 2022 medallists Abbie Wood and Imogen Clark are others who will be seeking podium places in Scotland.
The para swimming line-up is also stacked with exciting talent.
Paralympic champions Poppy Maskill and William Ellard will be two of England’s leading contenders in the S14 category, with fellow multiple Paris 2024 gold medal-winner Alice Tai looking to make it a hattrick of Commonwealth crowns.
“I love the Commonwealth Games, for me it’s the most fun competition I’ve ever done, both Gold Coast and Birmingham,” Tai tells Glasgow 2026.
“I just had so much fun and loved the vibes as everyone is more relaxed and enjoying themselves, which you don’t really get at other elite competitions.
Tai continues; “I’d love to defend my titles, I am swimming up (a category to face athletes with a lower level of impairment) in the 100m Backstroke and 100m Freestyle, which is a bit of a challenge, but I’m always up for a challenge and not complaining.”
The squad will also feature teenage talents Iona Winnifrith (15), who won Paralympic silver at age of 13 and senior team debutant Ursula Carroll (14), after she impressed at the recent Aquatics GB Championships.
Swim England Head of Sport and the Team England Team Leader for Swimming and Para Swimming, Richard Blackshaw, said:
“What makes this team particularly special is its fully integrated nature, bringing together Para and Olympic pathway athletes to compete as one unified group, reflecting the very best of inclusivity and shared ambition.
“United by a common goal, the team is determined to represent Team England with distinction this summer, both in and out of the pool and to showcase the strength, resilience and talent within English swimming.”
The Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games will run from 23 July until 2 August, with the Swimming and Para Swimming programme taking place between 24-29 July. To find out how you can attain tickets to watch some of the best athletes on the planet, CLICK HERE.
