Freshly crowned British champions Alex Mackay, Madeline Rosher, Angus Doig and Drew Burns are all set to make their Commonwealth Games debut in Glasgow. After enjoying national success, they will now look to make their mark on the international stage.

After moving from the 45kg to the 48kg category following changes to the International Weightlifting Federation's bodyweight classes last year, Alex Mackay has spent the past year adapting to her new division. She admitted she was unsure whether she had done enough to earn selection.

"It's been quite a chaotic journey for me, to be honest, and whether I'd make these Games was really uncertain.

"I was very much expecting bad news, so when that call came, I was honestly in shock."

Madeline Rosher, who originally competed in CrossFit, took up weightlifting four years ago and was inspired by the competition at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Four years after being inspired by weightlifting at Birmingham 2022, Madeline Rosher is now taking her own place on the platform. A journey she says feels “honestly indescribable.”

"I remember watching Emily Campbell and just thinking, 'Wow, that's incredible.'

"Back then, I could never have imagined that would be me. To be here now is honestly indescribable."

Agata Herbert joins the squad as the sole returning athlete from Birmingham 2022, where she finished seventh in the women's 76kg event. Speaking to Team Scotland, she said:

Agata Herbert returns with Birmingham 2022 experience behind her and the excitement of representing Team Scotland at a home Games ahead.

"Birmingham was an incredible experience and something I'll never forget. It's great knowing I can go into these Games with that experience behind me, and I want to enjoy every moment.

"I've worked hard to get back to this stage, and I'm very excited about the prospect of representing Team Scotland at a home Games next month."

The squad also includes 2025 British Championship silver medallists Beth Ashbee and Iain Wilson, Corey Duncan, who holds every Scottish record in his weight class, and Tom Wright. Despite only switching from CrossFit to weightlifting two years ago, Wright has already won medals at the British Championships and represented Scotland on the world and European stage.

Tom Wright’s rapid rise in weightlifting brings him to Glasgow, fulfilling a lifelong ambition to represent Scotland on the Commonwealth Games stage.

Reflecting on what selection means to him, Tom said:

"My dad is Scottish, and my mum is half Nigerian and half Italian, so growing up I felt this real connection to Scotland even though I was raised in England.

"Growing up, my goal was always to represent Scotland, whether that was in rugby or any other sport I tried.

"So, when I took up weightlifting and then heard the Games were coming to Glasgow, I knew I had to get here."
