Ben Mosley unveiled as Glasgow 2026 Artist in Residence
Flagship artwork revealed at Glasgow's Gallery of Modern Art
One of the UK's leading sports artists has been unveiled as Artist in Residence for Glasgow 2026, with his flagship artwork revealed at Glasgow's Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA).
Commissioned by Trivandi, Glasgow 2026's official event delivery partner, Ben Mosley will create a series of artworks inspired by the Games, capturing the atmosphere, emotion and energy of Glasgow throughout the summer.
The first piece was unveiled alongside young people from Glasgow Children's Hospital Charity, who joined Ben for a special creative session celebrating the city, sport and the Commonwealth Games.
A celebration of Glasgow
Created over three days, Ben's flagship painting pays tribute to Glasgow's landmarks, people and sporting spirit.
The artwork features iconic city landmarks including the Duke of Wellington Statue, the Finnieston Crane and the SEC Armadillo, while every sport and Para sport featured at Glasgow 2026 is represented within the piece.
Painted in Ben's distinctive expressionist style and incorporating 24k gold, the artwork also celebrates Glasgow's industrial heritage, architecture and unmistakable character.
Bringing art into the Games
The piece marks the beginning of Ben's Artist in Residence programme, with a further series of live paintings planned throughout the Games.
Working from venues and fan locations across the city, Ben will create artworks inspired by the moments, athletes and stories that make Glasgow 2026 unique.
The flagship painting will also feature on a limited-edition range of licensed merchandise and will later be auctioned to raise funds for the Commonwealth Sport Foundation and its charity partners.
Ben Mosley said: "My painting is a celebration of Glasgow. It aims to capture the spirit of the city through its iconic landmarks and unique culture, combining those with the sports represented at this year's Commonwealth Games.
"I'm really looking forward to painting live throughout the Games and capturing the atmosphere, energy and emotion as it unfolds. Together, we're hoping to create pieces that people will look back on in years to come, remembering something amazing that took place in their great city."
Creating a lasting legacy
The Artist in Residence programme forms part of a wider ambition to create a cultural and artistic legacy that extends beyond the field of play.
Alex Johnston, Legacy Manager at Glasgow 2026, said: "When sport and creativity come together, they create something special. Ben's work will capture not only the performances and achievements of the Games, but also the spirit of Glasgow, its people and its communities.
"These artworks will become a lasting reminder of what was achieved here and help tell the story of Glasgow 2026 for years to come."
