Rishikanta gained widespread recognition after winning the gold medal in the 60 kg category at the 2025 Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships, where he set a national record and secured qualification for the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

His success marked him as one of India's leading weightlifters in the lightweight divisions.

Rishikanta set a new Commonwealth Games record in the snatch with a lift of 121 kg and finished with a total lift of 264 kg, earning India's first silver medal of the Games.
 
He lost out on the top spot to Malaysia's Aniq Bin Kasdan who took gold. But in a subsequent event the competitors both successfully lifted 121kg in the snatch giving them an identical Commonwealth Record.
