The 30-year-old Black made her Commonwealth Games debut at Glasgow 2014 and won the All-Around title at Gold Coast 2018.

The four-time Olympian has had to deal with persistent injury issues during her career, including recent ankle problems.

The final competitor of a high-class final, Black overhauled Scott with a score of 12.750 on the Floor to finish on 53.050 for her fourth Commonwealth gold and an eighth medal overall.

Scott took silver with 52.900 to add to her Team gold, while the 16-year-old Fontaine, who like Black claimed Team silver on Saturday, secured bronze on 52.800.

“It’s pretty amazing, and 12 years ago I probably wouldn’t have imagined that I'd be here right now,” Black said.

But that’s the beauty of sport. We're just changing the narrative of women in sport, and gymnastics, and hopefully inspiring the coming generations to see that there's no age cap.

"You can keep going, you can still get better and enjoy what you do.

“This is my second All-Around in two days, and I haven't done any for two years, so I was just taking it one step at a time.

“Me and Lia (Fontaine) were feeling good, and we said, 'Let’s show up, and try and be fierce and show what we can do'.

“We had to adapt a little bit because our routines weren't perfect, but we kept fighting, and we kept our cool. We were just really enjoying the atmosphere and being out there together.

“You never take hearing the Canadian national anthem for granted. It's really important for us to remind ourselves that it is special, because what we do is so hard, and we work so hard for these moments."

Black will now focus on the Individual Uneven Bars and Balance Beam finals over the next two days.

Fontaine, who was only four years old when Black won her first Commonwealth Games medal, will also compete on the Balance Beam, as well as the Vault and Floor.

“Ellie is such a great person,” Fontaine said. “She is really positive and always by my side at training.

“I’m really happy for her. It’s crazy how she hasn’t competed in All-Around for two years and now she is here winning the gold medal.”

Australia's silver medallist Scott, who will join the Canadians in the Balance Beam final, was thrilled to secure her second medal in two days.

“This is a really special moment for me and I don’t think it has sunk in yet,” Scott said.

Earlier in the day, Reuben Ward won Scotland’s first-ever Men’s Artistic Gymnastics All-Around gold medal.
