Rishikanta Singh Chanambam hails from Imphal West, Manipur, has risen to be one of India's most promising talents in the sport of weightlifting. Representing both India and the Indian Army, he has built a reputation for his technical excellence, consistency, and determination on the international stage.

It was this grit and determination he showcased on July 26, when he set a new Commonwealth Games record at Glasgow 2026 in the Snatch category of Men's 60kg Weightlifting. If establishing the record to beat at Amdavad 2030 wasn't enough, he also won India's first silver medal of the games.

Rishikanta set a new Commonwealth Games record in the snatch with a lift of 121 kg and finished with a total lift of 264 kg.

He lost out on the top spot to Malaysia's Aniq Bin Kasdan who took gold. But in a subsequent event the competitors both successfully lifted 121kg in the snatch giving them an identical Commonwealth Record.
