Aznil bin Bidin Muhamad broke two of his own records in the Snatch and Total categories in weightlifting on July 26.

Bidin broke three Games record in the first session with an initial Total of 295kg, 130kg in the Snatch, and a Clean & Jerk of 162kg - before beating them out in the second session with a lift of 299kg in Total, 133kg in Snatch and 166kg in Clean & Jerk.

This impressive display earned Aznil Bidin his third consecutive gold in the Men's 65kg category at the Commonwealth Games, making the Malaysian weightlifter the first of nation to do so - beating out the former national weightlifter Amirul Hamizan Ibrahim who held two gold medals won in 2002 and 2010.

The 32-year-old is currently undisputed across Commonwealth weightlifters in the 65kg category when it comes to Commonwealth records. He currently holds the highest lifts of any commonwealth athletes in:

  • Total: 306kg - Southeast Asian Games, December 14 2025
  • Clean & Jerk: 173kg - Southeast Asian Games, December 14 2025
  • Snatch: 135kg - IWF World Championships, October 4 2025

The Malaysian weightlifter, alongside fellow record-breaker and national weightlifter Mohamad Aniq Bin Kasdan, will be seeking to defend their titles at Amdavad 2030, and perhaps push their records even further.
