Mixed fortunes for Caribbean nations as Netball continues
The Netball competition's two Caribbean nations had opposing results in their Pool B matches on Day 4 at Glasgow 2026.
After a slow start, 2022 silver medallists Jamaica beat Uganda 55-49, before Trinidad and Tobago were punished 77-27 by Scotland. Having trailed 15-12 in the first quarter, Jamaica rallied to hold on to a four-point lead for much of the game before pushing ahead in the fourth.
Jamaica goalkeeper Romelda Aiken said her team “didn’t get out of second gear” in the first quarter but was relieved they found the resolve to win.
“There were lots of things in the game that we were working on that we didn't do in the New Zealand game yesterday, but I felt like we were overdoing it,” Aiken said.
“But it's a learning experience for us. The front line has only been together for four weeks before we started, so I think we're doing pretty well. A slow start, but I'm glad we got the win.”
Despite announcing her retirement in at the end of 2025, Aiken put those plans on hold to return to the Suncorp Super Netball League in Australia and make her comeback at the Commonwealth Games.
“I retired, but I'm still playing. It's always an amazing opportunity to put on your national colours,” Aiken said.
“I think this is my fourth Commonwealth Games – maybe my fifth, I'm not sure – but it's just amazing. The atmosphere is unreal. It's great to see so many people coming out to watch netball and cheering for all the teams.

“I love it (Glasgow) so much I came back again. I'd love to see a bit more sun, but it's been raining.”
Aiken and her team-mates are unfazed by the Scottish crowd, however, as they now prepare to face the host nation.
“We've got Scotland next, so it's about really locking in on ourselves and what we do best, and not looking too far ahead, We'll embrace the atmosphere and hopefully get to see a little bit more of Scotland. That's our main focus, and certainly mine.”
In the day's final match, Trinidad and Tobago were put to the sword by Scotland. Cerys Cairns scored 50 of the host nation's 77 goals, while Emma Barrie was flawless from her 21 attempts.
