Scotland's most successful Commonwealth Games athletes kicked off the swimming with a great win for the host-country, in what is now the largest ever Swimming programme at the Commonwealth Games at Glasgow 2026.

Not only did the 29-year-old claim a gold medal for Scotland, he broke a Commonwealth Games record in the process.

Duncan Scott OBE broke a Games Record in the Men's 200m Individual Medley with a time of 1:56.38, beating the former Games record set by himself at Birmingham 2022 with a time of 1:56.88. He still hasn't matched the time World Record time of 1:52.69 set by France's Leon Marchand at the World Aquatics Championships 2025 in Singapore.

Scott is incredibly well-regarded in the world of British aquatics and beyond, in no small part due to his tenure at the Olympics - winning four medals at Tokyo 2020, more than any other British athlete at a single Olympic Games making him the nation's most decorated swimmer in Olympic history.

Making his Commonwealth Games debut at Glasgow 2014, Scott picked up his first Games medal - a 4×200m Freestyle relay silver - in front of an unforgettable home crowd. 

“Not many athletes get to compete at a home international, so the fact that it is my second go is pretty special. The Commonwealth Games are the only time I get to represent Team Scotland, so having the opportunity to do it in Glasgow is just really exciting.”
