Major swimming showdowns

Australia have written most of the aquatic headlines at these Games so far, but Wednesday could be the night for the home nation to rule the pool. Duncan Scott leads the charge and should duel with England’s James Guy in the 200m Freestyle, while fellow Scots Angharad Evans (200m Breaststroke) and Toni Shaw (100m Freestyle S9) will also seek to secure statement wins for the Tollcross loyal.

Things get heavy

Some mind-bendingly big kilos are going to be attached to the bar in the SEC Armadillo tomorrow, as the 94kg men enter the building for the Weightlifting, presented by Amul. Tom Wright will be carrying the weight of Scottish expectation on his shoulders, as well as a combined total in the region of 350kg – roughly the same as a large male grizzly bear or a fully stocked vending machine.

Heptathlon reaches conclusion

The withdrawal of the reigning champion, England’s Katarina Johnson-Thompson, has thrown the heptathlon wide open at the Athletics, presented by Longines. Northern Ireland’s Kate O’Connor, who was second at Birmingham 2022, is likely to benefit, but England’s Jade O’Dowda – bronze medallist last time out – and New Zealand’s Maddie Wilson can push her close.

Legends of Para field in action

The Discus catches the eye in Wednesday’s Para Athletics programme. On the women’s side, defending champion Goodness Nwachukwu, from Nigeria, is on the hunt for a repeat, while Welsh legend Aled Davies, a multiple Paralympic champion, will be among the favourites in the men’s at EDF Scotstoun alongside Trinidad and Tobago's Akeem Stewart, and Harrison Walsh of Wales. The locals will be looking out for Scotland’s Melanie Woods, who has a decent chance in the T54 1500m.

3x3 = gold

The Basketball 3x3 and Wheelchair Basketball 3x3 will reach their endgames at the SEC Centre. Surprise package Uganda will face New Zealand in one Women's Semi-Final, while Australia and Jamaica contest the other. In the Men's competition England will take on New Zealand while Australia play Scotland to determine who will fight for the gold medal. Scotland v Australia and England v Canada are the Semi-Finals in the Men's Wheelchair event, while England v Canada and Scotland v Australia are the final four in the Women's Wheelchair competition.
