England’s Shanice Beckford-Norton levelled the scores at 18-18 with 35 seconds on the clock before Georgia Gayle nailed a two-pointer to put the 2022 silver medallists 20-19 up with 24 seconds left.

But a foul gave Jamaica’s Tiffany Reynolds the chance to win the game from the free-throw line. She made the first but missed the second to leave te scores locked at 20-20 - only for another foul to give Jamaica a second shot at victory.

Teneisia Brown couldn’t take the first free-throw chance amid high tension, but kept her cool to convert the second and seal a 21-20 victory with 13 seconds on the clock.

Jamaica will now face 2022 bronze medallists Australia, who beat them 21-13 in their pool meeting, but Brown is optimistic of a different result in the last four.

“Second time's a charm, you never know,” Brown said. “We're coming out and doing what we do best. Our faith is strong and I feel like that is what carried us through tonight.

“We’re just staying together, we keep reminding each other why we're here and who we're doing it for in Jamaica.

“Every time we get past the first round, we never usually get past the second round, so this is a big stepping stone for us.”

Uganda also reached the medal rounds after beating Tonga 21-12 to secure a semi-final date with Pool B winners New Zealand.

"It's absolutely huge because we know it's probably our first time to really get here,” said Uganda’s Jamila Nansikombi, known as ‘Zama’.

“It's the semi-finals, but we still have to keep fighting. The fight is not over, and I know they're going to come out fighting as well, so we just have to keep the same energy up.”

'Workhorse' Jimenez sparks Scots' anthem

The Men’s 3x3 Basketball also brought a charged atmosphere inside Hall 4 as an outrageous two-pointer from Kyle Jimenez sealed a 21-16 win for Scotland over Malaysia, who had taken defending champions England to the wire in their only pool defeat.

Jimenez appeared to be off balance as he flung the winning shot from outside the arc and a partisan crowd erupted in celebration, followed by a rousing rendition of Runrig anthem Loch Lomond.

"It was a massive buzz, but I have to put all of it down to luck - I’ve just been a workhorse over the years,” said Jimenez, who labelled the shot one of his “top three” career moments.

“I roughly knew where the basket was and I heard someone shout "1.5" (seconds left on the shot clock) from the crowd, so credit to that person who let me know."

The Scots will play Australia, silver medallists at Birmingham 2022, in the semi-finals. New Zealand will face defending champions England in the other Men’s Semi-Final after a 21-15 win over Singapore.

In the 3x3 Wheelchair competition, Scotland will face defending Men’s champions Australia in the last four after the latter ended Wales’ debut Commonwealth Games campaign.

“The Scots have been coming out and they've been loud, so it's going to be awesome to play in front of that,” Australia’s Luke Pople said.

“They have some really good pieces in their four-man squad, so we'll go and watch some video and strap in for tomorrow.”

South Africa’s men's campaign ended at the hands of Canada, who progressed to a rematch in the last four with England, who beat them 20-10 in Pool A.

It will also be Canada v England semi-final revenge or repeat in the 3x3 Wheelchair Women’s tournament after defending champions Canada beat Wales in the elimination round. England won the teams' pool encounter at Glasgow 2026 15-12.

Australia, silver medallists at Birmingham 2022, made short work of beating Nigeria to book a date with Scotland in the other semi-final.

The semi-finals will be played on Wednesday 29 July, starting from 11:30.
