The Standing Eight, created by Theatre Alliance, tells the stories of eight women from boxing communities across Scotland through a moving verbatim theatre performance, using their own words to explore identity, resilience, belonging and the changing face of the sport.

Taking audiences inside one of Scotland's oldest sporting traditions, the production shines a light on the women helping to shape boxing today. Through honest personal testimony, movement and ensemble performance, The Standing Eight explores the barriers women have faced, the progress that has been made and the strength of the communities driving change.

Rather than taking place in traditional theatres, performances will be staged in three community venues with deep connections to boxing, bringing these stories back to the places where they began.

The production combines spoken word with choreography inspired by the rhythm and discipline of boxing training, creating an immersive experience that captures the determination, camaraderie and spirit found inside Scotland's gyms.

As women's boxing continues to grow in profile, The Standing Eight offers audiences the opportunity to hear directly from the people behind that story, celebrating the individuals and communities helping to redefine the sport for future generations.

The performances form part of the Glasgow 2026 Festival – a ten-week celebration of Glasgow's culture, creativity and communities inspired by the return of the Commonwealth Games. Running until 9 August, the Festival features hundreds of events across the city, showcasing local artists, community organisations and creative projects that invite everyone to be part of an unforgettable summer.
