Heavyweight champions of the world 

The kilogrammes are increasing day by day at Weightlifting, presented by Amul, as we work our way up through the categories. Things reach their mind- and bar-bending conclusion on Thursday, as the strongest athletes, the +86kg Women, 110kg Men and +110kg Men, enter the Armadillo. England's Emily Campbell is bidding to defend her crown from Birmingham 2022, while the men could hoist around 365kg, combined - the weight of a large saltwater crocodile or upright piano.

Nations will begin competing for gold around the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome today, July 30

Step this way to the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, a venue named after one of Scotland and Great Britain’s finest Olympians. The action, presented by EDF Energy, should be world class, with Australia versus the home nations a battle to savour. Hull and Back

There is another magical night scheduled at EDF Scotstoun for the stars of track and field. Jessica Hull, of Australia, is fighting a battle on two fronts - she is hotly tipped in the Women’s Mile, and will run round one in the morning, and will contest the 5000m final in the evening. Elsewhere, the line-ups for the Women’s 100m Hurdles and Men’s Shot Put are highly competitive: records should tumble. 

 

Para 100m runners ready to shine

The 100m on the opening day of Athletics, presented by Longines, produced some remarkably quick performances, including a Commonwealth Games record in the Men’s race. Now the Para 100m specialists will be relishing their chance to take advantage of the speedy EDF Scotstoun surface. Look out for Zac Shaw of England in the Men’s 100m T12, and New Zealand's Anna Grimaldi in the Women’s 100m T47. 

 

Last chance Thursday for netballers

Netball, presented by Ideagen, at The Hydro has been fascinating - and we are now at the business end of proceedings. Unbeaten Australia and New Zealand have confirmed semi-final spots, and are likely to be joined by Jamaica, but Thursday brings sudden death for England or South Africa who face each other in their final Pool A game at 21:00 local time.
