India’s Dilip Mahadu Gavit etched his name into the history books with a gold-medal performance in the men’s T47 100m event at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Clocking a Games record time of 10.71 seconds, Gavit became the first Indian male para-athlete to win a Commonwealth Games gold medal. Mohammed Basil Morssinganakath also of Team India took the silver medal giving the country a one-two finish in the event.

The previous record was held by England's Emmanuel Temitayo Oyinbio-Coker set in Birmingham 2022 with a time of 10.94 seconds. The world record is currently held by Brazil's
Petrucio Ferrería dos Santos with a time of 10.29 seconds set in his home country during the Desafio CBAt/CPB in 2022.

Gavit was part of the Maharashtra team that won the bronze in the men's 4 × 400 m relay in the 2019 Khelo India Youth Games at Pune. He then went onto win the gold medal in the men's 400 m T47 race at the 2022 Asian Para Games at Hangzhou, China.

In July 2023, he represented India at the 2023 World Para Athletics Championships where he earned a quota place for the 2024 Summer Paralympics.
