The 27-year-old successfully defended her 2022 Commonwealth Games title by finishing 2.13 seconds clear of Australia's Gemma Sellic, who claimed silver, and more than three seconds ahead of Victoria Belando Nicholson in third place on 26 July.
 
This result set a new Games record with a time of 1:11.93 beating her own record of 1:13.64 set in Birmingham 2022.
 
A trailblazer for Team England, Tai won Commonwealth Games gold in the 100m backstroke in 2018, 2022, and again in 2026, completing a historic three-peat in the event. Following the amputation of her right leg below the knee in 2022, she made a remarkable return to elite competition, inspiring fans around the world.
 

The Para-Swimmer grew up in Barton-on-Sea and had lessons with her brother from a young age, joining her local club. She made her Paralympic debut at Rio 2016 where she competed in five events, winning relay gold in the Women’s 4x100m medley relay alongside teammates Claire Cashmore, Steph Slater and Stephanie Millward.

Alice was forced to withdraw from the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics with injury and in 2022, she had her right leg amputated below the knee to relieve her of constant pain. She returned to action later that year to win gold for England at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

On her recent win and Games record she said: "I just went and swam my own race and I'm grateful that it got me a gold.

"Throughout my whole career, my relationship with swimming has been quite turbulent, and it's only really since Paris that I loved it again like I did when I was 12 or 13, so it's really special."
