Reigning 100m Freestyle champion Kyle Chalmers will competed in his third and final Commonwealth Games this year, where he added another gold medal to his existing seven Commonwealth Games silverware when he came first place in the Men's 50m Butterfly.

Now the Australian swimmer has over 10 medals from three Commonwealth Game thanks to his efforts as part of Australia's relay team. Chalmers anticipated would be his final run at the contest, ahead of Glasgow 2026 he said: “I’ve been able to achieve so many great things in my career and if I’m able to do it (beat Thorpe’s record total), it would be the icing on the cake. But I’m not stressing about it.”

Kyle Chalmers set a new Commonwealths Record time in the Men's 50m Butterfly at Tollcross International Swimming Centre with a time of 22.73 seconds, beating out the previous time, 22.81, set by Englishman Benjamin Proud at Birmingham 2022. He's around half a second from matching the world record though, 22.27, held by Ukranian Andrii Govorov.
