Velodrome gold rush for the Aussies

Triple gold for Australia at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, including a clean sweep in the Men's 4000m Individual Pursuit, with Oliver Bleddyn grabbing gold, Conor Leahy silver and James Moriarty bronze. David Beckham and Ronaldo were in the house at Track Cycling today, too – David Beckham Elkatohchoongo and Ronaldo Singh Laitonjam, that is. Named by their football-obsessed fathers, both ended up in heat 1 of the Men’s Keirin repechage, with Becks edging his compatriot into fifth place.

Double gold for India’s judokas

Judo golds are like buses for India: you wait 36 years, then two come along at once. The first judo gold of the Games went to Asmita Dey in the Women’s -48kg – India’s first Commonwealth title in judo. Less than 20 minutes later, India had its second gold as Harsh Singh triumphed in the Men’s -60kg. India also claimed a medal in the final bout of the day, the Women’s -57kg final, where Yamini Mourya took silver. 

Scot repeats gold in T54 1500m re-run

Glasgow local Melanie Woods won the restaged Women’s T54 1500m, after first winning the race on Wednesday. It was re-run after a crash between Noemi Alphonse of Mauritius, who took silver in today's race, and Eliza Ault-Connell of Australia, who took bronze. Woods said she wasn’t too fazed by having to race again. “I'm no stranger to things not going my way. I've been there, done that. Having to re-run a race is the least of my worries.”

Hunter Bell dominates Women's 800m

England's Georgia Hunter Bell took advantage of the absence of compatriot and sometime training partner Keely Hodgkinson to dominate the Women's 800m on the track. The world silver medallist claimed her first major outdoor title at the age of 32.
