Wales' Funmi Oduwaiye breaks Commonwealth Games record in Women's Discus Throw F44
Wales’ Funmi Oduwaiye delivered a history-making performance in the Women’s Discus Throw F44, breaking the Commonwealth Games record with a remarkable throw.
Wales’ Funmi Oduwaiye delivered a record breaking performance in the Women’s Discus Throw winning the silver with Welsh teammate Bree Cronin taking bronze.
Oduwaiye, 23, had an opening throw of 38.52 metres, a Commonwealth Games record for the F44 category. It was previously held by Australia's Sarah Edmiston with a throw of 34.96 metres in Birmingham 2022.
The gold was won by defending champion Nigeria's Goodness Nwachuku, who threw a world record for the F42 category with a throw of 39.66m with her final throw.
F42 and F44 scores in World Para Athletics multi-class events are calculated using the Raza Points System, a mathematical formula based on a Gompertz function that converts an athlete's physical distance or height (in metres) into a standardised point score.
Nwachuku's disability level saw her distance have a greater point score than that of Oduwaiye.
Oduwaiye adds to the bronze she won in F44 shot put at the World Para Athletics Championships in 2025.
