Foy retired in April 2021 after a career in which she won Paralympic medals and multiple world titles, but returned to the sport in 2025, with pilot Jessie Hodges also coming out of retirement.

“I didn't need much convincing,” said Foy (pictured left), after adding the Women's Tandem B 1000m Time Trial title to the Tandem B Sprint gold she won on Thursday. “I still had more to do, so I'm very happy to be back. I just love training and competing and achieving big goals so very happy to be here.”

The pair are the first Para cyclists from New Zealand to compete at the Commonwealth Games.

Foy said: “We’ve come here with the non-disabled riders, so it's putting us in spaces that maybe we haven't been in before. It's showing people what we can do and working alongside them.

"We learn from each other. It's elevating our sport and pushing it forward, and I think that's a great thing."

Fachie bows out after almost crashing out

Despite only reuniting as a team in March, Fachie and pilot Aaron Pope claimed victory in the Men’s Tandem B 1000m Time Trial on the opening night of competition.

They returned on Saturday to navigate the rounds of the Men’s Tandem B Sprint and reached the gold-medal match where they faced the Welsh duo, James Ball and Matthew Rotherham.

After a win apiece for each pair, there was a collision early in the deciding race, with the Scotland duo crashing heavily and ending up in a heap on the track.

The race was rerun, with Fachie and Pope making no mistake this time to take their seventh Commonwealth Games title.

"I think it spurred us on," Pope said of the crash. "It was quite literally a kick up the a**e to get us going, and it paid off in the end. It makes us look pretty good too.”

Fachie said: “I'm in a much better place physically than I thought I would be, and Aaron is incredible - he's a strong rider - but I don't see myself carrying on. What a way to bow out. I'm quite happy to say farewell here. I love you, Scotland, and what a moment.”

Emma Finucane of Wales won her third gold of the Games in the Women’s 1000m Time Trial and will go for a fourth in Sunday's Keirin.
