Boxing masterclass from India
It was a golden day for India in the ring as they won seven of their 10 finals, including Sachin Sachin, who was trailing to Namibia's Tryagain Morning Ndevelo until a knockdown with the last punch of the bout. In the Women’s 57kg, Northern Ireland’s Michaela Walsh had to settle for silver, but celebrated becoming the first boxer to win four Commonwealth Games medals. “It’s a massive achievement but it hasn’t really sunk in yet,” she said. “I’m really proud of my performance today.”
Busiest day in track and field
Nineteen medal events were decided in the Athletics. While Josh Kerr won the blue-riband Mile race with a quick finish, no victory came easier than Samuel Ogazi in the Men's 400m final - the Nigerian was 0.57 seconds clear of the silver medallist, Birmingham 2022 champion Jereem Richards of Trinidad and Tobago. He confirmed himself as a new potential superstar of the sport by declaring his ambition to win Olympic and world golds and "become the greatest athlete ever".

For the first time in Games history the Australian Netball team won’t be in the gold-medal game. Jamaica shocked the Birmingham 2022 title holders – and the crowd at The Hydro – with a 46-45 win, after Australia’s Sophie Dwyer missed a shot in the dying seconds that would have taken the game into extra time. The Sunshine Girls will meet New Zealand in Sunday’s final, after the Silver Ferns eased to victory over England.
