The Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games opened in spectacular style on Thursday as The King and The Queen took a cue from the Doctor by emerging into The Hydro from the TARDIS.

The King’s Baton Relay’s journey across Africa brought together twenty-one nations in celebration of sport, culture, and community. From the shores of Sierra Leone to the deserts and savannahs of the heartland, and the islands of Seychelles, the Baton carried a shared message of unity and environmental responsibility on its path to the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
Eswatini hosted the King’s Baton Relay from 14 to 19 August 2025, a six-day programme that combined cultural celebration, sporting activity, and environmental action as the Baton made its way through the Kingdom.
