OVERVIEW
At Glasgow 2026, we're committed to providing a safe, secure and welcoming environment for everyone. An integrated security operation will be in place throughout the Games, delivered in partnership with Police Scotland, venue operators, stewarding providers and other Embedded Delivery Partners.
General security advice
Glasgow is a welcoming, friendly city and the vast majority of visitors enjoy their time here without any problems. As with any major city and international sporting event, it's sensible to take a few common sense precautions to help keep yourself and your belongings safe.
Do
- Stick to busy, well-lit streets, particularly after dark.
- Use main routes and areas with shops, cafés, restaurants and public transport where possible.
- Keep valuables out of sight and carry them in secure, zipped bags.
- Keep your phone secure and avoid leaving bags or personal belongings unattended.
- Be aware of your surroundings when using ATMs and shield your PIN.
- Use licensed taxis or trusted ride apps if travelling late at night.
- Plan your journey in advance if you're unfamiliar with the area.
- If you're socialising, keep an eye on your drink and stay with people you know and trust.
- Stay alert for pickpocketing in busy places such as shopping areas, transport hubs and nightlife venues.
- If you prefer to keep a low profile, avoid drawing unnecessary attention to yourself or your valuables.
- Be aware that football match days can make some parts of the city busier than usual, so allow extra time for travel.
- Follow any advice from Games staff or local authorities about planned protests or demonstrations.
- Trust your instincts. If a situation or location doesn't feel right, move to a busier area or seek assistance.
Don't
- Leave valuables unattended or on display.
- Hand your payment card to someone who takes it out of your sight where contactless or portable card machines are available.
- Get into unlicensed or unmarked vehicles.
- Walk while distracted by your phone, particularly if you're unfamiliar with the area.
- Leave your drink unattended or become separated from people you're with on a night out.
- If you wish to avoid unwanted attention, avoid wearing football colours around match days or near football venues.
- Stay in a situation or location where you feel uncomfortable or unsafe.
- Join or approach protests or demonstrations, as they can occasionally cause disruption.
