SAMH (Scottish Action for Mental Health) is Scotland’s national mental health charity, committed to improving mental health and wellbeing across Scotland through direct support services, community programmes, campaigning, and policy advocacy.
Glasgow 2026 is proud to welcome SAMH as an Official Sponsor of the Games. Throughout the Games, SAMH will provide dedicated wellbeing and mental health support for athletes and Team Officials during their stay in Glasgow.
Athlete Wellbeing and Mental Health Services
During Glasgow 2026, SAMH will deliver a range of wellbeing activities across the three Team Hub Hotels, including Pin Badge Exchange, activations, challenges and The Wee Nook.
These initiatives will provide athletes and Team Officials with welcoming, inclusive spaces where they can relax, connect with others and access wellbeing support in an informal setting.
The services focus on early intervention and prevention, offering opportunities to take part in wellbeing activities, access helpful resources and have supportive conversations. The Wee Nook is designed to encourage open conversations about mental wellbeing in a comfortable, accessible and engaging environment.

The Nook is a dedicated, non-clinical wellbeing space created by SAMH (Scottish Action for Mental Health) to support the mental wellbeing of athletes and team officials during Glasgow 2026. It provides a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment where people can take time away from the pressures of the Games to relax, recharge, connect with others and access practical wellbeing support. Through informal conversations, interactive activities and self-help resources, The Nook encourages positive mental wellbeing and makes it easier to seek support in a comfortable, stigma-free setting.
It is open seven days a week and athletes can walk in any time between 1000 and 1700 from Monday to Friday, and between 1000 and 1600 on Saturday and Sunday.
There are additional booked appointment slots and special activities taking place between 1700 and 1900 on weeknights if required.
This extended opening window provides a flexibility and accessibility around athlete training, competition schedules and recovery, ensuring athletes can engage at a time that suits them.
Where appropriate, athletes can be signposted to additional support services, including SAMH programmes, local mental health services, or partner organisations.
Resources available include:
- Mental health information and guidance
- Self-help tools and wellbeing materials
- Conversation prompts and signposting support
- Interactive activities designed to promote wellbeing
Staff will engage with athletes to identify any anxieties or perceived barriers (e.g. unfamiliar environment, stigma, time pressures) and actively support them to feel confident accessing the space.
Clinical Medical Hub
Where clinical or more specialist support may be required, athletes are sensitively guided towards the Clinical Medical Hub.
- This includes:
- Clear explanation of services available
- How to access and navigate the support
- Practical guidance on location and getting there
- The emphasis is on reassurance, clarity and reducing uncertainty
At all stages, the focus is on working alongside the athlete, ensuring referrals are appropriate, timely and aligned to individual need, while minimising barriers to access.
Qualifications of Practitioners and Volunteers at The Wee Nook and The Nook
Across all team hotel activations, including both The Nook and Wee Nook, staff and volunteers are appropriately trained and supported to deliver safe, effective and person-centred wellbeing engagement.
Team members bring a vast range of professional expertise, qualifications and lived experience including:
- Mental Health Awareness and Wellbeing training
- Suicide Prevention Training
- Safeguarding and appropriate boundaries training

All staff and volunteers are supported through ongoing training and supervision to ensure safe, confident and effective engagement with participants. Our staff come with various levels of educational achievements at Degree, Scottish Qualification, Leadership and Management Level.
