Finnie's Diary - Day 1
Dear Diary - WHAT. A. DAY.
Dear Diary,
WHAT. A. DAY.
6:00 AM — Mascot Mode: ON
I jumped out of bed with a wonderful feeling of pure excitement; I knew that today was going to be something special. My alarm went off nice and early for my very exciting trip up the iconic Finnieston Crane to announce myself to the city of Glasgow and the world!
I couldn’t help but strike a pose in the mirror before heading out. Earring in. Tail swishin’. Serving looks and legacy for Glasgow 2026 - today wasn’t just any normal day.
6:30 AM — Trip up the Cran!
All week long I had been crossing my hooves for sunshine and just like magic, the river Clyde was basking in the golden morning sunshine! I climbed that 100ft ladder up to the top of the crane, took a deep breath at the top and gave Glasgow the biggest, boldest wave: “HELLO GLASGOW!”
Birds chirped, cameras clicked, and for one glorious moment, it felt like the whole city was cheering right back.
9:00 AM – Morning Interviews
BBC Breakfast, STV News, Sky News—you name it, I was on it. Posing for cameras, showing off my personality, and striking all my signature poses.
My TV debut was so special as I got to show off my amazing city of Glasgow to the world! I feel so very proud!
10:30 AM — Meeting my magnificent Mascot Makers
My next stop of the day was to meet all the amazing mascot makers who brought me to life! I got the warmest welcome ever as
I was welcomed with lots of smiles, high fives, fist bumps and cheers! Their belief in me always pumps me up.
They call me the hype-master, and maybe that’s true, but they’re the real heroes behind the mascot magic. One kind mascot maker even gave me a friendship bracelet with charms matching my outfit. I’ll wear it forever.
12noon — Meeting Big Names
Then it was off to meet some VIP guests! Can you believe I met the First Minister of Scotland and the Lord Provost of Glasgow?! I posed for photos, showed off all my different features that make me, ME and got lots and lots of compliments on my special orange and white horn!
1:00 PM — Kelvingrove Adventures
We zoomed across Glasgow in my mascot-mobile (waving out the window to my fellow Glaswegians) to our next iconic destination, Kelvingrove Art Gallery. There I met Commonwealth Champion Eilish McColgan (legend!) alongside some other phenomenal Commonwealth athletes. We shared laughs, high-fives, and talked all things sport. Eilish even challenged me to a sprint...I think she let me win!
6:00 PM — Home time
Back home at last. My hooves are aching, my tail was matted, but my heart? BURSTING! Today was everything I had hoped it would be! I curled up in bed and replayed all the brilliant moments in my head as I drifted off to sleep.
I cannot wait to see what my next year brings before Glasgow 2026!
