With demonstrable expertise in strategic leadership across a multi-venue major event environment, we are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Head of Health & Safety to join

The Role
You will be the Head of Health & Safety lead for Glasgow 2026 Organising Company, overseeing all aspects of H&S, from event delivery and planning responsibilities through to
alignment and application across the business on corporate responsibilities. In your leadership capacity, you will bring teams from across the Organising Company, our embedded delivery suppliers and venues to review H&S holistically.
This role will shape and drive a proactive safety culture across the Organising Company, embedded delivery suppliers, contractors and our work with venue operators; ensuring that athletes, workers, volunteers, spectators and the public operate in environments that protect health, safety and wellbeing. The role will be supported by a team of health and safety advisors from the OC, specialists and H&S managers embedded by delivery suppliers.
Job Summary:
As Head of Health & Safety, you will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer to reflect the central importance of the role, and you will lead the development, implementation and assurance of the Organising Company’s health and safety frameworks for Glasgow 2026 accurately responding to the risks and delivery model of the Games. You will ensure safe delivery of all Games operations - from venue preparations and workforce operations to public engagement initiatives and supplier contractor integration -delivering in line with UK legal requirements and major event best practice.
- Strategic Leadership, Assurance & Governance
You will be required to advise the CEO, Board, Executive Leadership, Senior Managers and delivery suppliers on health and safety responsibilities and risks across the Organising Company and the Games ecosystem. In addition you will be required to act as the senior lead health & safety interface with statutory and regulatory authorities, emergency services, venue operators and key delivery partners.
- Health & Safety Policy, Framework Development and Implementation
You will be required to own and lead the design, implementation and continuous improvement of the Health & Safety Management System and Strategy, including policies, procedures and standards that meet UK legislative requirements and international standards for a major sport event. You will be responsible for ensuring consistent risk assessment practices are implemented across OC-led, supplier delivered and venue operated functions, including, but not limited to, operations, venue management, ceremonies, games experience, broadcast, catering, workforce operations(inc. volunteering), contractor-led activity, and spectators, public and sponsor activities.
- Compliance and Risk Management
The Head of Health & Safety will be required to lead assurance activities such as audits, inspections, reviews and corrective action follow-up and drive continuous improvement. There will be a responsibility for providing the oversight and assurance with functional areas and delivery partners on identifying potential risks, conducting risk assessments, and implementing control measures to mitigate risks. Including implementing the process for RAMS approvals.
- Incident Management, Reporting and Contractor Integration
There will be a requirement to maintain and continuously improve systems for measuring, monitoring, and reporting on Health and Safety performance, including accident/incident investigation. The Head of Health & Safety will be required to contribute to the Testing and Readiness plan to ensure incident management processes are robustly tested.
- Training, Culture & Awareness
A key element of the role will be ensuring that the delivery of health & safety training, competency frameworks and awareness campaigns to strengthen capability across the OC and suppliers are completed. This will include the rollout of training and induction content aligned with HSE requirements, OC values, and safety leadership expectations.
Key Skills and Experience:
The successful candidate will bring significant experience in senior health and safety leadership within complex, high-risk and fast-paced event environments, with a strong track record of operating at executive and board level. (NEBOSH Diploma, CMIOSH or equivalent professional accreditation strongly preferred).
Experience of working on major sporting events, or complex multi venue live operational environments is required, as is the ability to lead through periods of intense delivery pressure while maintaining high standards of safety performance.
You will have demonstrable expertise in developing and implementing effective health and safety management systems, governance structures and assurance frameworks that drive accountability and support safe delivery at scale.
You will be confident advising senior leaders on statutory duties, risk management and mitigation, and experienced in working across multi-site operations and multi-partner delivery models. Strong stakeholder management skills are essential, along with the ability to influence across public and private sector organisations, statutory bodies and emergency services.
