Between 23 July and 2 August, Glasgow’s city centre and key routes to competition venues and live sites will be noticeably busier than usual, as people travel to and from events. This page gives general advice and guidance on how Glasgow’s city centre will be affected – you can find more information on our Scottish Event Campus (SEC) and Merchant City Festival pages.

What to expect

  • Busier public transport between the city centre and all competition venues and live sites from 23 July to 2 August.
  • More people walking and cycling in the city centre across the Games period as spectators move between venues and sites and people attend the Merchant City Festival.
  • A small number of temporary road closures, one‑way systems, and parking suspensions in and around the city centre, particularly near Finnieston and the SEC.

Impact on travel

Train lines and bus routes between the city centre and competition venues and live sites will be busy from 23 July to 2 August.

The following train services are expected to be particularly busy - especially around competition times:

Glasgow Central

  • Services to Exhibition Centre will be extremely busy throughout the Games, particularly for events at the SEC.
  • Services to Dalmarnock will be busy before and after sessions at the Glasgow International Arena.
  • Services towards Partick and Scotstounhill will be busier than usual for events at Scotstoun Stadium.

Queen Street

  • Services to Carntyne will be busy before and after sessions at Tollcross International Swimming Centre.
  • Services to Partick will be busier with spectators travelling to the SEC, and Scotstoun Stadium.
  • Services connecting to Exhibition Centre will see high demand throughout the Games period.

During the Games, bus services across the city centre will continue to operate as normal, but some routes will be significantly busier than usual as spectators travel to and from venues.

  • Services heading west towards Finnieston and the SEC will see increased demand, particularly those using Finnieston Street, Argyle Street and Sauchiehall Street. These routes will be popular with spectators attending events at the SEC.
  • Buses serving the East End will also be busier, especially those travelling towards Dalmarnock for the Glasgow International Arena, and towards Tollcross for Swimming and Para Swimming. Services using Dalmarnock Road, Springfield Road, Tollcross Road and Braidfauld Street will experience increased demand before and after sessions.
  • Routes heading west towards Scotstoun Stadium will see higher passenger numbers too, particularly those using Dumbarton Road, Queen Victoria Drive and surrounding streets. In the Merchant City and Trongate area, services will be affected by the Merchant City Festival, with some stops and bus lanes temporarily suspended and passengers directed to nearby alternatives.

Road restrictions and local access

Most roads will remain open during the Games, but a small number will be subject to restrictions to allow us to welcome people safely.

Road restrictions within the period of 20 July to 3 August are shown on the maps below. There will also to a link to the formal Glasgow City Council publication of any road restrictions on this page from mid-June 2026.
