The Scottish Event Campus (SEC) will be one of the busiest areas during Glasgow 2026, hosting the Opening Ceremony at the Hydro on 23 July, Para Powerlifting on 24 July, Netball from 25 July to 2 August, Weightlifting from 26 to 30 July, and a full programme of 3x3 Basketball, 3x3 Wheelchair Basketball, Bowls and Para Bowls, Boxing and Judo. Temporary road closures and traffic restrictions will be in place to support safe movement, but residents and businesses will still be able to access their properties as normal, and essential services will continue throughout.
Impact on travel
- Exhibition Centre station will be very busy. Partick and Ibrox subway stations will also be significantly busier than usual.
- Finnieston Street bus services will be heavily used, with bus stops busier than usual.
- Walking and cycling routes remain open but will be busy, especially around session changeovers.
Affected roads
The following restrictions will be in place:
- Stobcross Road will be closed to all non‑authorised vehicles between Congress Way and Pointhouse Place from 23 to 24 July to support the Opening Ceremony.
- Congress Road, West Greenhill and Minerva Street between Minerva Way and Clydeside Expressway off-ramp will be closed to all non‑authorised vehicles from 22 July to 2 August.
- On Finnieston Quay, the northbound left‑turn lane will be unavailable.
- No right turn permitted from Congress Way to Congress Road.
Local access
Residents and businesses can access their properties as normal. No local access permits are required. Deliveries, waste collection, emergency services and care visits will continue without change.
