The Glasgow International Arena will host Artistic Gymnastics from 24 to 28 July and Track Cycling and Para Track Cycling from 30 July to 2 August. With up to 10,000 spectators expected each day, this area will be lively and full of Games‑time energy.
A phased venue takeover begins on 6 July, with the site handed back on 8 August. While some temporary road changes will be in place, access for residents and businesses will continue as normal, and walking and cycling routes will remain open.
Peak times
The area will be busiest:
- 24 to 28 July for Artistic Gymnastics
- 30 July to 2 August for Track Cycling and Para Track Cycling
Each session will welcome up to 5,000 spectators.
Impact on travel
- Dalmarnock station will be much busier than usual, particularly around session start and finish times. Trains from Glasgow Central run every 10 to 15 minutes, so residents using this station should allow extra time for boarding.
- Bus stops on Dalmarnock Road (2, 46, 60, 60A, 18, 65, 263) and Springfield Road (90, 189) will experience increased demand. If any bus stops need to be temporarily relocated, replacement stops will be within a comfortable walking distance.
- Walking and cycling routes remain open, but expect heavier use, especially on approaches from the city centre and along the main pedestrian routes from Dalmarnock station.
Affected roads
- From 22 July to 2 August, a full road closure will be in place between Nuneaton Street and Clyde Gateway. This is to support safe access to the venue and manage increased footfall.
- Short-term traffic measures will be in place close to the venue. These are designed to keep everyone safe and should not affect access to residential streets.
- Road restrictions within the period of 22 July – 02 August are shown on the maps above. There will also be a link to the formal Glasgow City Council publication of any road restrictions on this page from mid-June.
Local access
Residents and businesses will be able to access their properties as normal. No local access permits are required. Emergency services, care workers, essential visitors, deliveries and waste collection will continue as normal.
