Kelvingrove Park will host one of Glasgow 2026’s free, non-ticketed public event sites, offering live sport on big screens, family activities and a festival atmosphere throughout the Games.

While not a competition venue, the area will be busier than usual, especially at weekends and during medal sessions. At times access may be restricted to some areas to ensure a safe environment but most of the park will be open and accessible as usual throughout. Walking and cycling routes will remain open and public transport services will continue as normal.

Peak times

The area will be busy every day, especially at weekends and during competition times. Even during these times, you will still be able to use most of the park as usual.

Expect the busiest periods:

  • Around 10:00 to 12:00 (morning arrivals)
  • Around 15:00 to 17:00 (afternoon peak)
  • Around 19:00 to 22:30 (evening activity)

Impact on travel

  • Kelvinbridge, Kelvinhall and Exhibition Centre stations will be busier than usual. You should plan and leave more time for journeys where you can.
  • Bus routes on Great Western Road, Argyle Street and Byres Road will see increased demand. A small number of bus stops may be used by Glasgow 2026. Should this happen, temporary replacement bus stops will be set up within comfortable walking distance nearby.
  • Walking and cycling routes remain open and will be used more than usual. Cycle parking may be busy.

Affected roads

There are no planned road closures outside the park. However:

  • The area will be busier than usual.
  • Short-term traffic measures such as diversions or temporary parking controls may be introduced to support safe operations.

Local access

To minimise disruption to residents, local access controls will be in place on some streets. Business and residents impacted by local access controls will be contacted directly and provided with a local access permit. More information will be available here once plans are confirmed. Residents and businesses will be able to access their properties as normal. Deliveries, waste collection and essential services will continue.
