Getting around
Glasgow is a well‑connected city with excellent public transport links. During the Games, walking, cycling and public transport will be the easiest ways to get around. Train, subway and bus services will continue to operate as normal, with some services expected to be busier at peak times. Where temporary changes are required, these will be clearly signposted and supported by alternative options.
Walking and cycling
Walking and cycling routes will remain open throughout the Games. Glasgow’s cycle network provides safe, direct routes across the city. Many spectators are expected to walk or cycle to venues, helping to reduce pressure on roads and public transport. If you live or work near a venue, this is likely to be the quickest way to get around during busy periods.
Public transport
Public transport will play a key role in keeping the city moving. Train, subway and bus services will continue to run frequently. Some stops close to venues may be temporarily relocated or suspended to support safe spectator movement. Where this happens, alternative stops will be within a comfortable walking distance.
Roads and local access
Most roads across the city will remain open as normal. A small number of temporary restrictions will be in place around competition venues to support safe access for athletes, officials and spectators. These may include short-term closures, one‑way systems or ‘no stopping’ areas.
Residents and businesses will be able to access their properties as normal. Local access permits are not required for any competition venue.
Deliveries, waste and essential services
Domestic and commercial waste collection, postal services, deliveries, essential care and emergency services will continue throughout the Games.
Plan ahead
The best way to enjoy Games‑time travel is to plan ahead. Check our venue pages for detailed information, including peak times, walking routes, public transport options and temporary road changes. Consider using alternative routes or times to avoid key routes during peak times.
